These are examples of the typical activites you could pursue with a Miniature American Shepherd.
They are so versatile that they could do pretty much anything!
Agility
Agility is a sport which MAS have taken to with great enthusiasm, with several competing at the higher levels of competition and some having already competed at Crufts. It is an activity that helps channel the natural 'joie de vive' that is a characteristic of the breed.
Obedience
Obedience comes naturally to the MAS, they are very people orientated, eager and quick to learn. They respond extremely well to positive reinforcement as they are very intelligent and bond well with their owners.
Herding
The MAS can also have a herding instict which can be stronger if bred from working lines. Their size, speed, agileness and trainability make them very well suited for herding. In the USA they were originally bred to herd cattle and be smaller so they could nip at the heels and avoid being stepped on.
Therapy
Due to their adaptability, intelligence, trainability and love of people the MAS make an ideal therapy pet. Also due to their size and unique looks they are very well received, stand out and make people smile!
